Please visit our website at www.sandia.gov. We are searching for Mechanical Engineers for the Engineering and Design Integration Center at the Albuquerque facility. The salary is commensurate. A benefit and relocation package is available. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include providing optomechanical design and analysis support which include mechanical, electromechanical and optomechanical hardware ranging from nuclear weapons, satellite and aerospace components. Will be involved in the procurement, assembly, testing and integration of this hardware. Must have or develop skills in the areas of optomechanical design principles and practices, CAD modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Familiarity with advanced optomechanical materials, processes, optomechanical analysis (structural, thermal, optical), system light-weighting techniques, design for manufacturing and withstand harsh environments, final hardware assembly, and environmental testing. Requires interactions with mechanical, optical, quality, manufacturing and system engineers to perform design tasks.
Preferences
A BS in Mechanical, Optical or Optomechanical Engineering with a desire to specialize at the graduate level in one or more of the skills listed above (optomechanical design, analysis, testing, etc.). Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Pro-Engineer, and using analysis software. Must have good communication, documentation, organization skills and evidence of high academic achievement. Desired credentials include a MS in Mechanical, Optical, or Optomechanical Engineering. Experience in the following: designing, analyzing, assembling and testing optomechanical hardware; working within projects that require adherence to standards and requirements; and working with suppliers to procure optomechanical hardware. Ability to work successfully in a team environment with various disciplines of engineers and scientists. Familiarity with nuclear weapon, satellite or aerospace programs. GPA standard of 3.5 undergraduate/3.7 graduate degrees.
